Assistant Lead Nurse specialising in Asthma


Hours: 37.5

Working Pattern: Full time, flexible 9over 4 or 5 days pw)

Pay: Depending on Experience (band 7-8a)




Positive healthcare is recruiting for an Assistant Lead Nurse Specialising in Asthma to work in Northamptonshire.

The post holder is responsible for assisting the Lead Nurse to deliver safe, holistic, effective nursing care to the whole practice population.

As a Deputy lead nurse, the person will be responsible in supporting the Lead Nurse to ensure the accountability for the nursing service delivery. They need to be focused and self-driven within this role whilst being supported by the Lead Nurse/ Practice manager and Lead GP’s. They will support in helping to manage all the nursing resources, working closely with the practice management and GPs to deliver the practice priorities. Clinically, the focus of the role is the delivery of evidence-based practice for patients with long-term conditions and management and preventative nursing interventions to all patients. The post holder may be required in the absence of the Lead Nurse to participate in management meetings supporting them to provided safe and effective services and participate in the decision-making process.

As an autonomous practitioner the nurse is responsible for the care delivered, demonstrating critical thinking and skills in clinical decision-making. They will work collaboratively with the whole general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and will assist the Lead Nurse in the leadership and direction of the nursing team. They will play a key role in monitoring and encouraging all staff to maintain their own Wellbeing and that of others by ensuring a cohesive team making approach to daily practice.

Essential Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years post registration experience
  • At least 3 years recent primary and community nursing experience
  • Experience in nurse-led management of long-term conditions
  • Team leader experience
  • Experience in implementing protocols and clinical guidelines
  • Experience in quality initiatives such as clinical benchmarking
  • Audit skills
  • Stepping up or down treatments for Asthma
  • Completing annual reviews and working in collaboration with GP lead for QoF
  • Clinical supervision training and experience

Essential Qualifications:

  • Registered first level nurse
  • Community nursing specialist qualification or equivalent
  • Relevant nursing/health degree
  • Clinical supervision training and experience
  • Diploma or Degree Level Asthma Qualification
