Job Details:
Reports to: Imaging Operations Manager
Accountable to: Head of Imaging
Grade: Band 8a
Hours: 37.5 hours per week (Days, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility)
Location: 20, 22 and 5 Devonshire Place
Job Summary
- To support the Imaging Operations Manager and to lead in the provision of an efficient MRI scanning service.
- To assist the Imaging Operations Manager and the Head of Imaging in the development of the department and the introduction of new services.
- To be responsible for the leadership of the team of MRI radiographers and overall management of the running of the MRI service on a day to day basis ensuring the highest standards of care and service.
- To work closely with the Consultants, Referrers and Radiologists ensuring scans are of the highest quality and in line with best practice.

Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical and Professional:
- Ensure policies relevant to your area are set, reviewed and updated and that all Clinic policies are adhered to by all members of staff within your sphere of influence.
- Ensure effective use of staffing and resources in relation to service demands. Be flexible in staffing situations and assisting other departments if required.
- Respond to financial queries and be able to provide alternatives to keep services running efficiently.
- Monitor agency use regularly and take remedial action to keep to minimum as required. Ensure safe and appropriate skill mix when rostering Agency and perm staff.
- Organise and chair team meetings and encourage regular attendance and participation of all staff to promote effective team communication.
- Facilitate excellent working practices in collaboration with the Imaging Nurse Manager and radiology nursing team when performing interventional cases.
- Ensure you and your staff are competent in the use of the Clinic’s systems e.g. Datix, Learning Hub, Meditech, Soliton RIS, Philips PACS, i-passport and Trent.
- Establish and oversee research based practice, quality assurance and clinical audits.
- Lead the development of a Quality Improvement Plan for the MRI service.
- To carry out performance reviews on all MRI radiographers and to provide them and support them with training and development opportunities.
- Recruit and induct staff in conjunction with Human Resources.
- To ensure appropriate staffing levels at all times and to promote flexibility in working patterns.
- Manage sickness absence/absenteeism and take appropriate action according to Clinic policy.
- Actively manage under performance where necessary according to Clinic policy.
- Establish effective interdepartmental relationships to achieve optimum levels of patient care and service delivery.
- To ensure that employee and patient records are maintained and processed in accordance with the terms of the GDPR as indicated in The London Clinic Data Protection Policy.
- Ensure compliance with professional expectations as outlined in the HCPC Code of Professional Conduct for yourself and your direct reports.
- Ensure you and your direct reports adhere to MRI safety guidance and the MRI Local rules.
- Oversee and offer advice / support to your team in their clinical role to ensure high quality individualised patient care.
- Establish and deliver on individual and team objectives within the department according to the Clinic’s strategy.
- Ensure you and your staff attend relevant mandatory training and compliance for the team is high.
- Promote and safeguard the wellbeing and interests of patients, relatives and colleagues.
- Act to rectify unsafe practice or unprofessional conduct.
- To assist the Imaging Operations Manager and Head of Imaging in the assessment and choice of new equipment and take an active role in procurement and the creation of any required business case.
- To liaise with radiologists and referring clinicians to initiate and develop new procedures and techniques.
- To respond to radiologists, patient and consultant feedback keeping the Imaging Operations Manager updated at all times and escalating where necessary.
- To undertake any other duty commensurate with the grade of the post as requested by the Imaging Operations Manager.
Training and Education:
- Identify, develop and support staff training needs within your department in line with organisational objectives.
- Maintain and expand your professional knowledge and competence.
- Be a participating member of a least one Clinic’s forums groups or committees.
- Assist in mentoring and supervising radiography students who come to the MRI department.
- Must have proven skills, knowledge and experience in MRI to include 3T.
- To promote research based practice, quality assurance and clinical audits where appropriate
- To facilitate and promote CPD activity within the team (e.g. in-house presentations) and to audit CPD activity within the team.
Health and Safety:
- To comply with the Department of Radiology’s MRI Local Rules and MRI Safety Policies and to instruct other members of staff in safe practices.
- Ensure that Clinic Policies relating to Fire, Risk Management and Health and Safety at Work Act are implemented and adhered to at all times.
- To undertake regular reviews of risk assessments, and to promote a high standard of risk management.
- Ensure that all staff attend mandatory training updates.
- Be competent in the safe use and storage of all equipment in your department. Promptly report any faults and ensure appropriate action is taken. Ensure that regular maintenance is carried out on all equipment in accordance with maintenance contracts.
- To promote safe working practices and manage any workplace risks, escalating them to the Imaging Operations Manager where necessary.
- To ensure that all equipment is kept clean and the technical rooms are kept tidy.
- To ensure your team comply with the Staff dress, uniform and appearance policy (as clinical workers).
Personnel and Stakeholder relationships:
- Provide leadership to the team and service.
- To lead the team and maintain a high morale within the team.
- Encourage a good working relationship with the multidisciplinary team, resulting in the effective care and treatment of patients.
- To develop and maintain good productive relationships with all referrers and consultants, and to be responsive to their queries.
- Actively participate in the promotion of your department and the Clinic.
- To maintain confidentiality in relation to all information regarding patients in accordance with the Clinic’s Data Protection Policies.
